About us

SGAMUN is a Model United Nations founded by students of the Stedelijk Gymnasium Arnhem in 2025. We are proud to be able to organise this MUN at our school in the beautiful city of Arnhem. On this page, you will read more about SGAMUN, MUNs in general, our school and our city.

SGAMUN

This year, a Model United Nations will be held at the Stedelijk Gymnasium Arnhem. But what is a Model United Nations? A MUN is a simulation of the United Nations to teach students about things like diplomacy and global issues. During a MUN conference students assume the roles of representatives of countries, organizations, or individuals to collaborate and address global challenges.

Stedelijk Gymnasium Arnhem

Our school, the Stedelijk Gymnasium Arnhem, is a gymnasium located in the city of Arnhem. It is one of the oldest schools of the Netherlands. The Latin School, which later became the Stedelijk Gymnasium Arnhem, is mentioned in historical documents from as early as 1263. The matricula (a document containing records of all students) of our school, containing the names of all students from 1657 and onwards, is kept in the Gelders Archief. Even today, our principal still registers all new students in this ancient document. The building in which the school is located in a beautiful, historical late Jugendstil building.

Arnhem

Arnhem is a quaint city in the east of the Netherlands, and it is also the capital of the province of Gelderland. It is not only well-known for its important role during the Battle of Arnhem, which was a part of Operation Market Garden, but also for its beautiful church, the Eusebiuskerk. It was also the capital of the historically important Duchy of Guelders.
