Over the past few days, weeks, months or even years, you may have noticed significant changes in international and national politics regarding truth. Truth as a whole is a vulnerable concept, easily exploited, and perfect for politicians to push their agenda. It happens too regularly in modern politics used for propoganda, justifications for war, etc. We as SGAMUN believe this comes from broken international cooperation and communication. There are many ways to attempt to repair the broken international cooperation, but many of them are significantly hard to execute. If international regulation of information is executed, will political misinformation truly be defeated, causing less propoganda and false justifications? Or will this lead to even more authoritarian rule?
Students will learn to come up with creative solutions, and think deeply about important topics. Therefore we believe this fits perfectly with the goal of MUN, and can also teach students more about cooperating and debating
More often then not, you may have to deal with an important piece of information you suspect is twisted or simply even not true at all, which is often hard to recognise or notice. This causes many young people to start believing these lies, and get drawn to political extremism. With the theme ”increasing transparancy to fight misinformation by strengthening international cooperation among all nations” We aim to have students think deeply about an important topic, especially in modern times
